Brentwood Holds On To Beat Raptors

Brentwood High School - Brentwood won this years "Battle of the Woods" game 5-4 leaving Ravenwood with an 0-1-1 district record.

Starters for last nights game were Josie Ricketts, Cami Belin, Karley Wilson, Sarah Cloud, Melissa Rondinelli, Kayla Gruver, Savannah Hill, Ana Bridgeman, Sierra Hetherington, Claire Fallon, and Emma Petty.

Brentwood got off to a quick start, scoring in the first minute to take a 1-0 lead. Brentwood would control play much of the half stretching their lead to 3-0 by the end of the first 40 minutes.

The second half would start exactly like the first half with Brentwood scoring early to extend their lead to 4-0.

At that point, the Lady Raptors decided to show some pride. In the 53rd minute, senior Savannah Hill played a ball to Claire Fallon who took the ball and beat several Brentwood defenders before finally beating the Brentwood keeper to get Ravenwood on the scoreboard.

Just five minutes later, Karley Wilson would win the ball, pass to Hill who fed the ball to a streaking Fallon. Fallon would penetrate deep into the Brentwood box before passing a beautiful ball to Sierra Hetherington who had put herself in perfect position to beat the Bruin goalie and close the gap to two goals.

The Bruins would respond quickly making the score 5-2.

Then, in the 66th minute, Hetherington would draw a foul at the top of the 18. Hill would take the free kick, blistering a shot off a Brentwood defender to make the score 5-3.

10 minutes later, Maia Rondinelli would make her presence felt by forcing a Brentwood defender to take her down in the box resulting in a penalty kick for Ravenwood. Hill scored drawing Ravenwood within one with four minutes left. The Brentwood player was assessed a red card forcing the Lady Bruins to play the remainder of the game with 10 players.

Unfortunately, the Raptor comeback would run out of time and leave Brentwood with the victory. While the game was a loss, it's possible the Lady Raptors learned a few positives about themselves.

The team has plenty of time to figure things out and upcoming district games will provide great opportunities to improve and for all players to gain experience and confidence in each other. GO RAPTORS!

The JV team beat Brentwood's JV team 2-1. Ravenwood would get their first goal with one minute remaining in the first half when Clare Rohleder scored. 7th minutes into the second half, Mia Fraser scored on a rebound after Cassidy Fessmire had penetrated deep into Brentwood territory. Brentwood would get their only goal with about 5 minutes left in the game. JV plays tonight at Page. Game time is 5pm.
