Centennial High School - Saturday night, Ravenwood put the regular season behind them and took their first step in this year's district tournament by defeating the Centennial Lady Cougars 4-2. As coach Londoño said, “they found a way.” The win was also a bit of payback for a 2-1 loss to Centennial last week. Monday night, The Lady Raptors get another payback opportunity when they play Brentwood in the district semifinals. The game is tonight at Summit High School; kickoff at 5pm.
Starters for Saturday’s game were Emma Petty, Cami Belin, Sarah Cloud, Madison Sumatra, Josie Ricketts, Melissa Rondinelli, Kayla Gruver, Savannah Hill, Anna Jahr, Claire Fallon and Sierra Hetherington.
From kickoff, it was clear Ravenwood was not interested in ending thier season. They took control early with aggressive play from everyone.
In the 9th minute, Claire Fallon took a pass from Sierra Hetherington and finished for a 1-0 early lead. Over the next several minutes, The Lady Raptors would increase pressure with two good opportunities by Anna Jahr. On one, the Centennial goalie was forced to make a great save, on another she hit the post. Then it was Gruver’s turn. First she headed the ball off a free kick from Hill but was denied on another great save by their goalie. Thanks to the midfield play of Melissa Rondinelli and backline play of Cloud, Belin, Ricketts, and Sumatra, all the play stayed in Centennials end.
Then, in the 26th minute, Kayla Gruver found a rebound after the keeper made a big save on Savannah Hill’s free kick. 2-0 Ravenwood lead.
2nd half would be much of the same. Just like the first half, Fallon put pressure on the Centennial back line and hit the post in the 1st minute.
Centennial would get a couple very good chances but each time, Emma Petty was there to make the big save. Sarah Cloud and Cami Belin were also there several times to stop Centennial advances.
In the 55th, a pretty play starting with Sumatra to Fallon to Hill for the finish. 3-0 Raptors.
In the 59th, Ravenwood’s backline made a big clear with Belin making another huge play. In the 65th minute, Petty made another save on a break away to keep Centennial off the board.
Then, Ravenwood struck again in the 71st minute on a give and go between Hill and Fallon at the top of the 18. Hill’s second goal of the night gave the Lady Raptors the 4-0 lead. Centennial would score twice late making the final score 4-2.

The JV Raptor Season ended undefeated and with a district tournament Championship avenging a 2-1 loss against Brentwood in last years JV district final. The final score of this years game was 3-0. Starters for the game were Faith Vanston, Ashley Yoshihara, Lillye Perez, Christina Stauffer, KC Godden, Anna Major, Cassidy Fessmire, Claire Roheleder, Maddie Gleason, Courtney Hill, and Nora Henderson.
The championship was a complete team win. It started in the back with exceptional backline play by Yoshihara, Perez, Stauffer, Gooden, Erin Bentley, and Mary Prestegaard. Midfielders Gleason, Roheleder, Fessmire, Major, Abby McNulty, and Madeline Jones controlled the middle not allowing Brentwood to get any transition. Raptor strikers Hill, Henderson, Katie Devereaux, and Ella Skaar kept pressure on the Brentwood defense the entire game. Unfortunately, Mia Frazier and Sophia Gaddis were injured for both the Semi-final and final games.
Here’s how the scoring went. In the 10th minute Courtney Hill won the ball in the corner and crossed it to Cassidy Fessmire who scored to give Ravenwood the 1-0 early lead.
Then just 4 minutes later, Ashley Yoshihara passed the ball to Abby McNulty who passed it to Christina Stauffer who passed it to Courtney Hill who fed a streaking Cassidy Fessmire again. Fessmire beat all defenders to goal and beat the Brentwood goalie for the 2-0 Raptor advantage.
The final goal came when Courtney Hill drew a penalty kick and then scored to cap a dominating performance by the entire JV squad. Congratulations on the undefeated season and district tournament championship. The future looks bright for the Lady Raptors!
