Raptors Advance

Ravenwood High School – The Raptors advanced to the District Semi-Finals, weather permitting, Wednesday night against Independence High School with a 7-0 win against 6th seed Dickson High School.

Starters for the game included Jack Hyatt, Pedro Cobo, Baker Lockhart, Dylan Thomas, Spencer Layland, Jake Hill, Grayson Hetherington, TJ Munzel, Jesse Boone, Blake Sams, and Chris Barker.

Grayson Hetherington would get the Raptors started with a goal in the 10th minute. It would take most of the first half for Ravenwood to score its next goal but when they did, they added several quickly.

In the 36th minute, 37th, and 39th minutes, the Raptors would get goals from Hill, Boone, and Chris Barker to give the Raptors a 4-0 lead at halftime.

Senior Pedro Cobo was asked about the first half.

We came out a little slow in the first half but, I think, in the last 5 minutes, we finished our chances, got back to our rhythm, and chemistry.

Starters for the second half included Joe Roebuck, Jim Roebuck, Rolando Barker, Dalton Bickel, Ben Knickerbocker,  Spencer Layland, Rafael Jarmillo, Ben Barone, Jack Hyatt, Baker Lockhart, and Chris Barker.

DSC05684In the 45th minute, Hyatt was called on to make a great save to keep Dickson scoreless. Then, in the 62nd minute Jim Roebuck would score to make the score 5-0. Just 2 minutes later, Baker Lockhart got on the scoresheet with a breakaway chip over the goalie to add to the Raptor lead.

The goal of the night belonged to Dalton Bickel who’s upper 90 shot from outside the 18 made the score 7-0 and capped a night where 7 different Raptors scored.

Ben Barone was asked about the second half.

I thought we did pretty good coming off the bench. We showed some great character out there. We played a good 40 minutes like coach told us to.

DSC05823The win sets up a rematch with the Eagles. The first meeting, just last week, ended in a 3-3 tie.

In other district tournament games, Independence beat Summit and Brentwood rallied in the last 5 minutes to beat Centennial 2-1. The Bruins play Franklin in the 5pm game and Ravenwood plays Independence in the 7pm game. Both games will be played at Ravenwood.

Cobo was asked about the match-up against Independence.

I think it’s good. We expect to do well. I can promise we’re going to come out here on our home field and give it 120%. It’s our senior year so we’re expecting our boys to go full out.
