Ravenwood Suffers Two Overtime Losses

Brentwood TN - They say in the movies, "LIGHTS, CAMERAS, ACTION!!" That's exactly how the Ravenwood High School gym was last night. Packed crowd, television cameras and some exciting basketball. The gym was overflowing with representation from both the visiting Brentwood High School fans and the Raptor Nation. As with every district contest between the two schools, there was excitement in the air over who would go home with bragging rights after the "Battle of the Woods." The game was covered by MyTV30 and WAKM radio. So the stage was set for one of the season's classic matchups and the crowd was not disappointed. This time, Brentwood basketball came away with two nail-biting victories in overtime winning. giving them a sweep in round 1 of the Battle of the Woods. The Lady Raptors suffered their first district loss in last night's match. Kiera Downey laced a layup in the final seconds of regulation to send the game in OT. The Raptors just couldn't match the 3 key shots by Brentwood's Shealy, Boozer and Roy which allowed the Lady Bruins to pull away. Leading scorers for Ravenwood were Alexis Ahlert (11 points), Downey (10), Bailey Swayze (6) and Megan Hawkin (5). In boys' action, Ravenwood didn't have a defensive answer for Brentwood's Grant Teichmann's 20 second-half points. Despite losing their star guard Jalen Lawson to injury in the first half, Teichmann stepped up big. Elon Smallwood and Nick Gleason brought a massive offensive attack by depositing 40 of the team's points on the night, 14 of those points coming in the fourth quarter. The night's leading scorer Nick Gleason (22pts) performed his magic at the free throw line which provided the points that sent the game in to overtime. Ravenwood's record is now 9-9 overall and 3-2 in district play. They will go on the road to Dickson County on Tuesday 1/19 for the next matchup.
