Raptors, Lady Raptors State Bound
On a beautiful sunny day at the Steeplechase, the boys and girls cross country teams qualified for the state championship. It was the boys’ fifth straight time making the cut and the girls will be running at state for the twelfth year in a row. Freshman Annika Sleenhof became Ravenwood’s first ever individual region champion, coming from behind to edge Brentwood’s Hailey Hendry. Junior Julia Henderson joined her on the All-Region team and Addison White, Hailey Erickson, Sabrina Florey, Olivia Kuban and Olivia Hetherington all finished in the top twenty.
Seniors Matt Rainey and Richard Guiry finished All-Region to lead the boys. Jack Strevell, Austin Chitwood, Nathan Tidwell, Jack Dang, and Garrett Statum were top twenty.
Kailey Churchill won the girls JV race for the second consecutive season. The JV race was unofficial, but had it been scored Ravenwood would have won easily. Lauren Yeager, Hannah Belcher, Jamie Blaylock, Alyssa Parker, Hannah Williams and Kendall Pace finished 2-7 for the Lady Raptors.
The boys JV team finished second unofficially, with Everett Jackson, Lance Mott, Blake Brown, Daniel Nicastro, Sebastian Bielski, Josh Parker and Stuart Stankevich were the top 7 finishers.
The varsity squads will compete with the best teams from all over Tennessee at the state championship meet November 1 at the Steeplechase.
