After several close runners up and third place finishes throughout the years, Ravenwood’s Lady Raptors claimed their first sectional championship since 2007 on Thursday, defeating runners up Brentwood 137-120. Competing in one of the best and deepest sections in the state, the girls qualified in two field events, ten running events, and the pentathlon, showcasing how talented they are in each discipline – sprints, distance, relays, jumps, and hurdles. For the boys, the 4x800m (Tim Cody, Jack Dang, Carter Myers, Kevin McGinnity) ran a great race and just missed qualifying for state with their fifth place finish. Senior Chris Rowland, running in only his third ever open 400m, broke 51 seconds to finish fourth and advance to the state championship.
The state meet is next week at MTSU. The pentathlon is Monday, girls finals are Thursday, and boys finals are Friday.
