RHS XC Alumnus Guiry Earns All Freshman Honors at SoCon Championships

It's hard to believe, but Ravenwood cross country alum Richard Guiry (c/o '15), didn't make the team at Sunset Middle. A friend dragged him to conditioning during the summer of 2011 and he's been running ever since. Now a freshman at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga, Guiry ran 8K (4.97 miles) in 25:56 at the Southern Conference Championships in Greenville, SC, to place second for the Mocs and earn all freshman honors. In addition, fellow Ravenwood graduate Jack Strevell ran a PR of 27:25 to place sixth for UTC. Coach Mueller could not be more proud of either of the runners. "Coach Gautier has done a great job helping Richard and Jack adjust to the increased race distance (5K to 8K). They're both in really good shape and doing well staying focused despite the longer races. It's really cool that they got to run their first SoCon championship meet at Furman." Both former Raptors will be in action again in two weeks when the Mocs compete at the NCAA regional championships. guiryStrevell
