Sleenhof breaks school record, Lady Raptors runners up at Owens
It was another record breaking day for freshman Annika Sleenhof and the Lady Raptors at Oakville Indian Mounds Park on Saturday. Already the fastest freshman in Ravenwood cross country history, Annika ran an 18:24 to break Erika Peoples' three year old school record and lead the girls to a second place finish, their best ever at the prestigious Jesse Owens Classic. Not to be outdone, Julia Henderson, Hailey Erickson, Sabrina Florey, and Addison White all ran sub 20:00 with Olivia Kuban and Lauren Yeager clocking season best times as well. It was the first time five Lady Raptors broke 20:00 in the same race.
The boys also ran well, putting five under 17:00 and posting their smallest 1-5 split of the year. Matt Rainey led the way with a 16:03, 9 seconds off the boys' school record, with Austin Chitwood, Richard Guiry, Jack Strevell, Nathan Tidwell, Garrett Statum, and Jack Dang following closely as the boys finished third overall.
The JV boys were next up and sophomore Everett Jackson made the most of the fast field and beautiful weather by clocking a 17:49 to earn a varsity letter for the first time. Blake Brown, Daniel Nicastro, Sebastian Bielski, and Stuart Stankevich rounded out the scoring as the boys finished fifth.
The JV girls closed out the day by posting the lowest score of the four Ravenwood teams and finishing runners up. Freshman Olivia Hetherington and Sophomore Kailey Churchill both broke 21:00 to earn varsity letters, with Hannah Belcher, Hannah Williams, and Bailey Fohr coming very close.
All Raptor runners will be back in action on Saturday at Sharp Springs in Smyrna, where they will compete for their first-ever Mid State Cross Country Association championships.
