The new "Cardiac Kids" do it again!

The Raptor Baseball team is becoming the new "Cardiac Kids" with another late inning rally to beat Centennial HS in the second of the three game series. The game was in Centennial's favor for the majority of the frames with Bryce Denton holding his own on the mound, but Centennial holding a 3-0 lead on 9 hits going into the top of the 7th.

In the Top of the seventh Drew Haynie led off by reaching first on an error. Daniel Hopfensperger then also reached on a throwing error which moved Haynie to second. With no outs and men on first and second, Bailey Whitten stroked a seeing eye single to right field moving all runners up. With bases loaded and Hagan Severance at the plate, a past ball allowed Haynie to score and Hopfensperger and Whitten to move up. With a 1-0 count, Severance delivered a laser into right field for a single which scored Hopfensperger and Whitten, tying the score at 3. Next up Jack Kopecky reached base on a catchers interference call, moving Severance to second and bring Denton to the plate. With a 2-1 count Denton delivered a blast to left scoring Severance from second. Ryan Beamish then stuck out swinging. Darrell Freeman then came to the plate. Freeman singled to right field on the first pitch, scoring Trey Ferguson, who had entered to run for Kopecky, from second. On the throw Ethan Johnson, who had been inserted to run for Denton, was thrown out attempting to take third, ending the inning with the Raptors on top 5-3! The bottom of the 7th was anything but easy however. The first batter Denton faced in the bottom half of the 7th singled. That was followed by a double and another single to load the bases. Denton then showed the leadership that he has come to be know for. He proceeded to bare down and strike out the next 3 batters to preserve the win 5-3 for the Raptors!

Denton threw a complete game with 9 hits, 3 runs, 2 base on balls and 9 strike outs. Standouts for the raptors at the plate were Hagan Severance with 2 hits. Kopecky, Denton, Beamish (Dbl), Freeman and Whitten all with hits. The Raptors had 5 runs on 7 hits.

The next game is tonight 3/25 at Ravenwood against these same Centennial Cougars. If recent history serves, you won't want to miss an inning! See you at the park!

Go Raptors!
