Boys Cross Country Off to Strong Start at Voyles Classic

Racing against temperatures in the high 80s and air dripping with moisture, the Ravenwood boys cross country team got the season off to a strong start, led by sophomore Matthew Rigsby and his 17th place overall finish.  Senior Everett Jackson, sophomore Kevin Frost, and junior Jack Dang all broke 18:00, with Carter Myers and Blake Brown close behind.  Ravenwood finished fifth out of 37 schools in the AAA division.

In the final race of the day the JV boys battled their 37027 brethen to a third place finish, just 14 points behind Brentwood.  Sophomore Nolan McGinnity (#5) and newcomer Nikhil Arun (#8) both finished top ten to pace Ravenwood, followed by Bryce Akridge, Sebastian Bielski, and Trevon Miller.  David Story and Christopher Caruso were 6 and 7 for the Raptors.

Coach Mueller noted that looking at the times wouldn't paint an accurate picture of how well Ravenwood's runners competed.  "When it's pushing 90 degrees with high humidity like that it's really hard to run a fast time, but you can still race well, and that's what we did.  I'm really proud of our runners and am looking forward to seeing us compete next weekend in Georgia."  All four squads will be back at it next Saturday morning at the Clara Bowl Invitational in Rome, GA.
