For the first time in his illustrious career, junior Jack Dang was the #1 runner for Ravenwood's cross country team Saturday at the Mid State Championship meet in Dickson. Though his time of 18:00 doesn't jump off the screen at you, based on the difficulty of the Buckner Park course, he turned in roughly the equivalent of a high 16s on the comparatively flat Jesse Owens course. Kevin Frost was right on his heels, followed by Carter Myers, Nolan McGinnity, Matthew Rigsby, Everett Jackson, and Blake Brown. Matthew was nursing a hip injury and Everett lost a shoe, making the hilly course even more challenging for the pair. Despite their less than stellar luck, the boys managed to finish 12th in the AAA division.
The JV team fared better, especially given the absence of their presumptive #1 runner, Nikhil Arun, who was debating. Seniors Sebastian Bielski and Kevin McGinnity finished 8th and 9th to lead the boys to a 6th place team finish. Trevon Miller, David Story, and Camden Burke rounded out the scoring with Bryce Akridge and Brendan Goodbred finishing 6th and 7th for Ravenwood.
The boys will look to lock up their seventh consecutive bid to the state championship meet when they run again at the Region 6-AAA championship October 27 at the Steeplechase.
