The 2016 season came to an end last night as the Lady Raptors fell to the Summit Spartans in extra time. Ravenwood started the contest with the following lineup: Savannah Harris, Grace Parsons, Sierra Hetherington, Kelsey Foley, Ana Bridgeman, Savannah Hill, Abigail White, Lauren Finan, Claire Fallon, Blare Gerido and Goalkeeper Emma Petty. The game started with teams exchanging rushes for the first five minutes. The Lady Raptors seemed to be finding their game midway through the opening half when Savannah Harris struck the crossbar at the 14-minute mark. Savannah Hill got into the action with a quality chance that went wide just four minutes later and a had shot bang off the post at the 20-minute mark. The first half concluded with the Raptors possessing the ball primarily in the offensive zone.
The second half saw Emma Thomas, Caroline Hopfensperger and Emma Parrott enter the game. The game took a more physical style as several fouls were called and one yellow card awarded to Summit. The long pass attempts by Summit finally created a breakaway chance that saw Olivia Odimegwu score to give the Spartans a 1-0 advantage at the nine-minute mark of the second half. The Lady Raptors were kept in the game by two outstanding defensive plays on corner kicks with Emma Petty calming the attack with a key save. A determined Raptor team intensified their effort and finally got the game-tying goal on wide angled approach by Savannah Hill, beating the goalie on the far post. The Lady Raptors had several in-close attempts as time ran out in regulation.
The game went in to two 10-minute extra time periods. After a scoreless first overtime, the Summit Spartans set up a touch pass and a perfectly placed strike from the a few yards outside of the 18 by Gwyne Cardinal, giving the Spartans the 2-1 victory. The game ended the season for the Lady Raptors who continued to show their effort and quality play even though the result was not what they wanted. A special thanks to the following Seniors who ended their career at Ravenwood last night: Savannah Harris, Grace Parsons, Kelsey Foley, Kendall Lynch, Emma Parrott, Caroline Hopfensperger, Karlie Paschall, Emma Thomas, Lauren Finan and Blare Gerido. They have entertained us over the past four years and built the program into one of the elite in the State.
