Ravenwood's Lady Raptor cross country teams dominated at Thursday's Region 6-AAA Championship. Running in the first race of the day, the varsity girls laid the hammer down from the gun to the chute. Annika Sleenhof won her second individual region title, covering the tough Steeplechase course in a brisk 17:53, 1:07 ahead of the second place finisher. Joining her in the top ten were Jamie Blaylock (third in 19:32), Ella Kuban (fifth in 19:56), Alex Rosen (sixth in 20:00), and Maeve Hanley (tenth in 20:09). This was the second time Ravenwood put five girls on the All Region team (2011 being the first). Sixth and seventh runners Elise Strevell (20:25) and Olivia Derr (20:29) were 13th and 15th as the Lady Raptor crushed second place Brentwood 24-54.
Not to be outdone, the JV girls posted a perfect score in the afternoon race. Finally feeling good after struggling with an ankle injury for most of the season, junior Olivia Hetherington won the race in 21:15. This marked the fifth year in a row that a girl from Ravenwood won the JV race. Taylor Hill (22:13), Addison White (22:18), Haley Berger (22:19), and Ella Rhoades (22:56) went 2-5 to give Ravenwood's girls 15 points. Elena Vidal (23:24) and Camilla Kjeve (23:30) were sixth and seventh. Ravenwood's JV squad finished their season as the #1 ranked JV squad in the Tennessee.
The Lady Raptors will look to capture their third state championship next Saturday, November 5, at the Steeplechase.
