Capping what has been the greatest cross country season in Lady Raptor history, Annika Sleenhof ran in Nike Cross Nationals Saturday morning in Portland, Oregon. In a field crowded with state championship caliber athletes and teams, she wisely positioned herself with the front pack so as to avoid getting boxed in, spiked, or shoved. With rain falling seemingly every day in Portland, the grassy course was sloppy and not particularly fast, so her 18:01 was more impressive than it looks at first glance. She finished in 19th place out of 200 of the best high school runners in the nation, earning Nike All American honors. She is the first female from WCS to earn that distinction. She has also earned a nice break from running!
