Both teams put up a bunch of runs, but Raptors fell to Brentwood Academy 16-6 on Saturday in the first pre-season contest of the year.
Brentwood Academy captured the lead in the first inning on 2 walks, a triple and a single to jump out to a 3-0 lead after one. The Raptors came back in the top of two with Peter Clifford reaching on an error and stealing 2nd on a passed ball. Clifford then scored on a Brandon Jaworski single to center to bring the score to 3-1. Alec Lubas shut down BA in the bottom half of the second to keep the score at 3-1. In the 3rd the Raptors couldn't push across a run and the Eagles scored 2 in the bottom half on 2 walks, 2 hits and a wild pitch.
The Raptors however were not done. Jack Sisk led off the 4th with a walk and after a ground out by Zach Sharber to move the runner, Jackson Sherrill and Lubas drew walks to load the bases. Will Myers then singled to center and after an Evan Pope ground out, Carter Sells singled to score Lubas and Sherrill, bringing the Raptors to within 1 at 5-4.
Jack Sisk hit the bump in the bottom of the 4th, on a day when all the Raptor pitchers were going to see 1 inning of work, and shut the Eagles down 1-2-3.
The score stayed 5-4 through the 5th, on a good outing by Jackson Stone, when in the top of the 6th, Ethan Johnson ran into a fastball and delivered it over the left field fence for a solo homerun, tying the game at 5-5. Unfortunately, the excitement of tying the game didn't last long, as in the bottom half of the inning BA scored 5 runs on 4 hits, a walk and a hit by pitch making the score 10-5.
The Raptors were only able to push 1 more run across in the final 4 innings, with BA scoring 6 more making the final score 16-6.
BA finished with 16 hits to Ravenwood's 5, and earned 12 BB's to the Raptors 11. Strike outs were prevelant, with BA pitchers earning 16 SO's to the Raptor's 13.
The Raptor's next time to hit the field will be Saturday March 3rd at 11:00 am -vs- SpringField High School in the 2nd of 3 pre-season contests. The game will be played at Raptor Field @ Ravenwood, so come out and support the team.
