Back in 2011, Coach Mueller noted that "the only thing harder than winning a state championship is winning again the next year." His 2012 squad was able to successfully defend the 2011 title, and now the 2017 squad looks to build on last year's wins. It won't be easy, but things got off to a fine start today as the girls were greeted by mild temperatures as they toed the line for team tryouts. Several alumni came to cheer on their former teammates, and they were treated to some really strong running, especially considering it's still July.
Senior Jamie Blaylock was the first to cross the finish, leading a group of four girls who covered the 3 miles in well under 20 minutes. Alex Rosen, Olivia Derr, and Maeve Hanley were followed by Elise Strevell, Ella Kuban, and Carson Everman, who all broke 21:00 easily. Newcomers Bella Sleenhof, Ansley Baine, Msgana Araya, and Ellie Claybrook all ran low 22s, a promising sign at this point in the season. There are a few more girls who were out of town today so the top ten for Voyles isn't finalized yet, but you can check out the updated roster and schedule pages.
