IN FOCUS: Emma Petty

Name? Number?
Emma Petty, #32

What position do you play for the Raptors?

How long have you been playing soccer?
Since I was four years old when my dad coached my rec team.

What is your favorite position?

What were/are your goals for this season?
My goal for the season is more of a collective goal. I hope that as a team we will all grow together and start to know each other so well that playing as a unit comes as second nature.

What regular season game are you most looking forward to? Why?
I'm most looking forward to playing Brentwood this season because of the strong Battle of the Woods rivalry and I think they should have a really strong team this year and they'll be good competition for us.

Tell me about the most exciting sports experience you've had? An exciting game you participated in, watched, etc.
The most exciting game I've ever been a part of was the State Cup finals when I lived in Indiana. We went into overtime and got scored on in the first 15 minute period. In the last two minutes of the second overtime period, one of our players hit a shot from about 40 yards out and scored. We went to PKs and they were pretty even until I saved the last shot and we won the title and headed to regionals. It was a game I'll never forget.

What are your plans after high school?
I'm planning on attending college at the University of Tennessee.

Why have you selected this college/colleges?
I chose UT because when I visited, there was a great atmosphere with lots of school pride. That's something I really value and it was a positive factor in helping me with my decision.

Do you plan on playing soccer beyond high school? Are you pursuing other interests (music, art, business, medicine, etc)?
I do not plan on playing collegiate soccer after high school, but I do intend to join any sort of club or intramural team I can get my hands on because I love this sport and I don't think I'm ready to give it up just yet.

Who is your favorite professional athlete and why?
Christian McCaffrey. He played football at Stanford and is now playing for the Carolina Panthers; I admire his positive attitude and his many skills that he utilizes off the football field as well.

Who's your favorite teacher? Why is he/she your favorite?
Mrs. Haviland because she introduced me to Environmental Science and not only taught me about it but showed me how to implement the lessons I learned into my daily life. Her passion for what she teaches has rubbed off on me and I love being around her because she's just someone you can talk to and she'll help you without a second thought.

Do you have any mentors or anyone in your life you really look up to? Why?
I look up to both of my parents because they've both worked so hard to get where they are and I admire their grit and determination to achieve at the highest level. I wouldn't be the person I am without their unconditional support and care for me and helping me grow into the best version of myself.

Tell us about your accomplishments you are most proud of?
My greatest accomplishment is finding the greatest group of friends I could ever ask for and being able to play with them on the field every day for four years.

Tell us about your parents/family? What they mean to you? What they do for a living? Anything else you want to share...
My family is quite a goofy one, anyone who has been around us can tell you that. Some of our hobbies include making dance videos, doing various impersonations for no reason, and having family roast sessions.

What are your favorite things about Brentwood? Places to eat, things to do, etc?
My favorite places to go in Brentwood are Taco Bell, the Nike Outlet and Crockett Park.

Tell us about a typical day in the life of you?
Pretty much wake up, go to school, soccer, then go home and shower. From there it varies. Sometimes I'll go hang out with friends and maybe go swimming or go out to eat, but other times I like to sit around and watch some Netflix and just relax (What, Jose? Oh... I mean work out 24/7 haha).

Tell us something funny about you? Embarrassing moment, etc.?
I once rapped in front of the whole school at a pep rally. People got pretty into it I think and I know I had a lot of fun. And trust me I know I'm not very good, but it was definitely an experience I'll never forget.

What advice would you give to other girls who aspire to play varsity soccer at Ravenwood?
Just go out on the field and give it everything you have and don't be afraid to step up and be vocal. In order for us to play well as a team we need leaders to put themselves out there and command the pitch and keep everyone balanced.

When life gets challenging, what do you do to deal with the worries and stresses of life?
I typically just go in my room or break out my hammock and listen to some music to relax a little.

Senior Raptor shout out: Is there someone in the community you think deserves recognition beyond your family or teachers you may have already mentioned (friend, pastor, volunteer, etc)? If so tell us about them.
Senior Raptor Shout out to all of the other seniors on the team because they make everyday life a whole lot easier and a lot more fun.
