There are countless cliches in the world of sports. One of them suggests that the only thing harder than winning a championship is repeating the following year. Beginning the season with your two returning All State runners recovering from injuries isn't how any coach wants to get started, but Coach Mueller had no complaints Saturday after the Lady Raptors rolled to their first ever win at the Voyles Classic in Smyrna. Senior Jamie Blaylock led the team with a strong 4th place finish, followed by junior Alex Rosen in 9th. Joining them in the top twenty were Olivia Derr (16th), Maeve Hanley (18th), and Elise Strevell (20th). Newcomers Msgana Araya and Ansley Baine finished 6th and 7th for Ravenwood. Senior triathlete Carson Everman was 8th, freshman Bella Sleenhof was 9th, and Ella Kuban, dealing with inflammation in her knee and IT band, was 10th. Ravenwood's team score of 67 points was 49 better than runners up Brentwood.
"This was a great race for us. To put 1-5 in the top 20 with a 1-5 split of barely over a minute is all you can ask for, and the girls delivered. As we get healthier and stronger it will be really fun to see what we can accomplish," Coach Mueller noted optimistically after the race.
Unfortunately there was no JV race at Voyles, but all of the Lady Raptors will be in action this coming weekend at the Clara Bowl Invitational in Rome, GA.
