Raptor Preseason in Review

Tomorrow (August 17th) at 6pm, the 2017 edition of the Ravenwood Lady Raptors takes the field against Brentwood Academy and kicks of a regular season guaranteed to provide new excitement and a renewed commitment to get past the district tournament.

Coach Jose Londoño returns for another season as Lady Raptors head coach (he is also the head coach for the boys program). Coach Londoño is in the process of finalizing his Varsity and Junior Varsity rosters as we speak and, by the looks of it, plans on giving a talented group of Freshman, Sophomore, Junior and Senior girls a chance to show what they can do.

Seniors Savannah Hill (All-District 2016), Emma Petty, Jolie Hurley, Ana Bridgeman and Clara Miller anchor a team with lots of talent and opportunity.

Since June, Lady Raptor squads have been preparing by attending several weeks of practices, group workouts with expert trainer Stacy Daniels, a 7v7 tournament at Independence High School and four pre-season games. Here's a quick recap of what's happened so far.

In the 7v7 tournament, both JV and Varsity won the title. Each team played a number of games with the winners determined by best record.

In four pre-season games, JV was undefeated while Varsity won two, lost one and reigning Tennessee State Champions Clarksville. Clarksville is rumored to have a bunch of their players returning from last years team which is a hopeful sign of how well our Lady Raptors might perform this year.

In addition to our five seniors, Claire Fallon, Sierra Hetherington, Kayla Gruver, Abigail White (All-District 2016) and Madison Sumatra join the ranks of upperclasswomen who will be counted on to play major roles this season.

Also, several newcomers will no doubt get their names included many times in game reviews and we all look forward to watching as this year's bright spots emerge.

As in past years, we will continue our Lady Raptors IN FOCUS articles so look for them and all the exciting Lady Raptor JV & Varsity news to come! GO RAPTORS!!
