The bitter taste of just missing the state meet last fall has lingered in the mouths of Ravenwood's boys cross country team since last November, and Saturday morning they finally had the chance to spit it out. After running with tremendous focus all winter, spring, and summer, it was no surprise to Coach Mueller to see the Raptors put two runners in the top 20 on their way to their best team finish in any meet since 2014. Junior Kevin Frost, affectionately known as "Frosty" by his coach and teammates, led the way with a 16:44, good enough for 4th on the all time junior list. Senior Jack Dang followed with a PR of 17:00. Transfer Jack Dellinger was next into the chute in 17:38, followed closely by Matthew Rigsby and Carter Myers. Transfer David Kertai, junior Nolan McGinnity, junior David Story, senior Trevon Miller, and sophomore John Collin Askew placed 6th-10th for the Raptors. Ravenwood bested region rivals Independence and Franklin by 16 and 22 points respectively, setting up a fall full of epic showdowns in the battle for region supremacy.
"This was a great way to start the season," said Coach Mueller. "Finishing first among the Region 6-AAA teams is a nice reward for all the hard work the guys have put in, but having Indy and Franklin right on our heels reminds us that we still have a long way to go. I believe this group of guys can take us where we want to be."
Unfortunately there was no JV race, but the entire team will compete this upcoming weekend at the Clara Bowl Invitational in Rome, Georgia.
