2016 was a banner year for Ravenwood's Lady Raptor cross country team as the varsity girls nabbed their third state championship and the JV girls finished the season ranked #1 in the state for JV (there is no JV state meet). The Voyles Classic had no JV race so Saturday's Clara Bowl Invitational marked the return to action for Ravenwood's acclaimed squad and they did not disappoint. Running with the JV boys, Carson Everman was the individual champion, followed by Bella Sleenhof (3rd), Taylor Hill (4th), Hanna Cho (8th), Ella Rhoades (16th), Elena Vidal (17th), and Ellie Claybrook (20th) for a team score of 33, 20 points better than runner up Blessed Trinity.
The varsity girls also had an excellent meet, finishing third overall out of 33 scoring teams from all over northern Georgia. Jamie Blaylock led the way with a 14th place finish while juniors Alex Rosen (21st) and Olivia Derr (23rd) just missed the top 20. Maeve Hanley and Elise Strevell fought off injury and illness to finish fourth and fifth for Ravenwood with Msgana Araya and Ansley Baine coming in sixth and seventh.
The entire team will be training hard the next two weeks in preparation for the Trinity/Valkyrie Invitational on September 16 in Louisville, KY.
