Missing a trip to state by 3 points at the 2016 region championship meet was disappointing for Ravenwood's boys cross country team. Their shared goal of returning to state in 2017 motivated them to train diligently during the winter, spring, summer, and fall, and their focus and determination paid off with a stunning 28 point win over runner up Franklin. For the third straight meet, junior Matthew Rigsby was top dog, finishing 2nd overall with a stellar 16:35. Joining him in breaking 17:00 on the challenging Steeplechase course were Kevin Frost (7th) and Jack Dang (8th), who both clocked 16:59. The trio earned All Region honors for finishing in the top ten. Sophomore transfer Jack Dellinger continued his strong season, finishing 14th in 17:28. Senior Carter Myers rounded out the scoring with his 25th place showing, followed closely by Nolan McGinnityand Trevon Miller. This was the first time since 2014 that three Ravenwood runners broke 17:00 at the Steeplechase and the first region championship in boys' team history. The guys have all agreed to bleach their hair to commemorate their win. Follically challenged Coach Mueller has agreed to quit Mountain Dew, so it's a win win for everyone!
There was no team score in the JV race but freshman Thomas Abramson ran a huge PR of 18:54 to lead Ravenwood, followed by Nick Dang, David Kertai, David Story, John Collin Askew, Christopher Caruso, and Ian Brown.
Look for lots of bleached blondes roaming the halls and running hard!
